About Us
What is IAB about?
The Indian Association Bonn (IAB) is a vibrant non-profit organization that brings together the Indian community in Bonn and its surroundings. We celebrate Indian culture, traditions, and values while fostering integration and mutual respect within the local society. Through cultural events, social gatherings, and community initiatives, IAB serves as a bridge between India and Germany.
Our Story
The idea of creating a home away from home for Indians in Bonn began in the late 1980s, when a small group of families envisioned a community that could celebrate Indian culture while embracing life in Germany. This dream took shape in the early 2000s and became reality with the founding of the Indian Association Bonn (IAB). Officially registered in 2011, IAB has grown into a vibrant network of professionals, families, and students who share a common bond - our love for India and our commitment to cultural exchange.
From our very first Diwali celebration in 2006 to hosting major events like International Yoga Day and multicultural festivals, IAB has always stood for togetherness, diversity, and pride in our heritage. Today, we continue to create spaces where traditions meet modernity, where our children learn to cherish their roots while becoming global citizens. Our story is one of community, culture, and connection & it’s still being written.

Sumita Wadhwa
I was born here and grew up between two cultures. Through the association, I was able to reconnect more deeply with my Indian roots while also learning how beautiful it is to truly belong to both worlds.
I love planning and bringing events to life, spending time with friends, and meeting new people. What started as simple encounters turned into lasting friendships — and what began as an association became a community. A community that connects, inspires, and keeps our culture alive.
Khushboo Bahadur
Often we have difficulty grasping our identity when languages, rituals, and customs shift together. As someone born here and raised in two cultures, I’ve experienced this as a blessing. We have created a community - a family, that celebrates, preserves, and continually honors Indian origins. The events, cultural evenings, and learning opportunities have given me new perspectives and made me proud of my roots. Today I feel connected to my Indian heritage while being firmly rooted in the culture that has developed here. Together we carry traditions forward, learn from one another, and strengthen our identity. This family makes the diversity of our culture visible and vibrant — an balance that the association has made possible.
Palak Nama
Born in India and raised in Germany, I am shaped by two cultures that continue to form my roots and identity. The association is a space where heritage and the present come together naturally. It connects generations, stories, and life paths. Cultural roots are made visible, kept alive, and developed together. Through conversations, encounters, and shared activities, a sense of closeness and trust emerges, making the association a place where diversity brings people together and cultural roots are passed on.

Being part of two cultures has always been a strength in my life. It has shaped the way I see the world, the way I connect with people, and the way I build community. Through this association, I found a space where both sides of my identity come together naturally — where heritage and everyday life don’t compete, but complement each other.
What drives me most is creating experiences that bring people closer. I enjoy planning events, building ideas from the ground up, and seeing how a simple gathering can turn into something meaningful. Over time, familiar faces became close friends, and shared moments became lasting memories.
